Children’s corner at Indian Heritage Centre

Permanent Exhibition

What is it:

Creative Direction, Graphic Design, Interactive Design, Fabrication and Build

What we did:

Step into a vibrant miniature cityscape and spot the tradesmen and women whose crafts brought our streets to life.

Styled like a whimsical board-game, we invite children and visitors to explore a miniature city where they can peep into windows, open doors and explore the streets to find and learn about traditional tradesmen and women that have shaped our community.

Can you spot all 10 trades? The Ice Ball Seller, Garland Maker, Moneylender, Goldsmith, Spice Grinder, Dhobi, Chef, Snake Charmer, Parrot Astrologer and Milkman.

Tasked with developing a space to allow children to learn about the trades of the past, we created the miniature city to encourage them to move across the entire area and explore nooks and crannies from every angle to find 10 hidden characters. We gamified the experience with a stamp collection system so as to reward their sense of discovery.

The cityscape is peppered with clues like jasmine and cardamom parcels, a goldsmith’s toolkit and historical images as visitors learn through hands-on, tactile discovery activities designed for children and the young at heart.
